MY FITNESS COACHING MANIFESTO

Writer: Brandon WoodruffBrandon Woodruff

I want to play my part in creating a culture where fitness is not equated with a person’s identity, but with their ability. Where foods aren’t called “good” and “bad,” but “often,” “occasional,” and “sometimes.” Where the scale doesn’t win the award for best measure of progress. Where people realize that the best approach to reaching their fitness goals is one focused on sustainability and habit-building, not quick fixes and magical foods.

I believe that the single, most important thing a person can do for their health and fitness is to resolve that they will not, under any circumstances, give up. That it doesn’t have to be all or nothing, and that they don’t have to wait until the next day, week, or year to “try again.” That they can make continual progress, adjusting speed as necessary, because every step, no matter how small or large, is a step closer to their destination.

I will gracefully yet vehemently oppose anyone who pedals their way to fitness and health as the only way, especially if that way benefits them financially. Because while some things are non-negotiable for progress, people need to use what works for them, not for their cousin, friend, or favorite social media influencer. I will base all of my advice, plans, and programs on what individual people need, like, and will stick to.

I will help people realize why they need to prioritize strength, point them in the right direction to do so, and walk alongside them in that journey should they decide to allow it. I will help them set goals, know why they want to achieve them, and make continual progress toward them. I will listen to my clients’ feedback, maintain a daily commitment to continual learning, and become a better coach because of it.

Best regards,

Brandon Woodruff
