Did you know that some things can be true, but not helpful?
Saying “eat less, move more” when someone reaches out for help with weight loss is one of them.
If it were that simple, they’d be doing it already. It’s like telling a homeless man to “just get a job” or a person with a mental health issue to “just get it together”.
Clearly, there are things hindering them from taking such a simple action to solve their issues.
So, while it’s good to help people understand the underlying principle behind fat loss (caloric deficit), if you’re just going to throw out the principle and not help them apply it or formulate strategies, then it’s probably best to just keep your well intended comment to yourself.
A caloric deficit can be established in many ways. Here are a few of them:
-Find out how many calories you need with an online calculator and then track your calories to stay under that.
-Find out how many calories you need with an online calculator and then make a meal plan that you stick to based on that so you don’t have to track except the one time.
-Eat more protein and whole foods which will help you reduce calories by default.
-Follow a template that tells you how much of each “food group” to eat with each meal.
-Cut out certain foods that cause you the most issues, or buy fewer of them so that you ration it more if you do well with moderation.
-Choose one thing to focus on at a time, such as prepping your lunch instead of eating out.
“Eat less, move more” is true. It’s just not helpful. Teach the principle, but then help people to apply it practically.
And if you have questions, message me. I spend my days helping people apply this stuff and love
