Hey all,
I wanted to share a change you’ll probably notice to what I post on social media in the future.
There will be a great bit more content having to do with time management.
Two reasons for this:
First, I’ve realized over my years of coaching that there are three main “enemies” that usually stand in the way of people reaching their fitness goals.
Those three are lack of knowledge of what to do, lack of motivation to do it consistently, and lack of any system with which to manage their time and actually do the things required to make progress.
My current coaching already addresses what to do, and it does the best it can to help someone not be subject to the unpredictable waves of motivation.
But a comprehensive time management system is beyond the reach of my current model.
Which leads into the second piece of this:
I’m going to begin offering time management coaching as an additional service that I offer. I’m still working out my exact model, pricing, etc, but it is coming very soon.
Let me address a few things here:
Time management is something that I’m naturally decent at, but I’ve spent the past 13 years (since I had enough to do to actually have to manage it) refining the process.
Learning all the systems to optimize my time, eliminate time wasters, and go to bed at night actually feeling accomplished rather than dissatisfied with what I spent my day doing.
I now spend my time on the things that are actually valuable and important to me. Pretty much all of it. That includes work, family, faith, rest, sleep, and everything in between.
I no longer feel behind or like I’m digging out or catching up, I don’t forget appointments, I don’t feel stuck or paralyzed by my tasks, I don’t only finish things at a frantic pace at the last minute.
Because I’ve developed a system and a plan for my life.
I’ve also been coaching people in fitness for over three years now using a model that keeps me very involved in my client’s lives.
It’s very natural for me to combine my slight obsession with time management with the model I use to coach my clients.
I’ll be laying out the system I will use to coach this very shortly, but here is the core principle of it. The value on which I will base everything is this:
“I help people create systems that fit their lives so they can spend their time on the things they value.”
You see, there are people out there writing books and creating courses to help people manage their time. But the problem I see with lots of them is two-fold:
1. They are dependent on a very specific model that the author found helpful. This is the same flawed principle that I’ve written against for what seems like ages now in fitness. Just because something works for one person DOES NOT MEAN it will work for everyone else. We are not clones or battle droids. We are individuals with different lives.
2. The models promote what the authors value. They include things like “get up early and go to bed early,” “meditate,” and more of the like. While there are certain apps and such that I will recommend people give a shot to see if they make their lives more efficient, I will never try to make them value the things I value.
So, I’ll say it again.
I help people create systems that fit their lives so they can spend their time on the things THEY value.
Stay tuned.
