Stop Worrying About the Scale

Writer: Brandon WoodruffBrandon Woodruff

I can’t find the original source of this picture; it’s not original to me, but I LOVE this.

It is a perfect example of why you should stop worrying about the scale. Whether you weigh yourself daily or just think about it daily, please, stop being so concerned with this.

This decrease in the length of the yarn is a direct correlation with a reduction in body fat DESPITE the scale not moving.

There are so many things that can affect the number on the scale, but the variables involved with measurements like this, reflections in the mirror, the way your clothes fit, having an easier time lifting things, or receiving comments from people who haven’t seen you in a while are much better indicators of true progress.

When you think about it, you’re really not concerned with what the scale says, but with how you feel and look.

You only care about the scale because it’s the measurement of fitness that society has wrongly pushed on you.

If you were your current weight and were about to step on the stage as a bodybuilder with 9% body fat, you would not likely be sad about the number on the scale. It’s a misguided societal misconception.

So, please, stop saying you want to lose weight. I know it seems like semantics, but words are powerful, and they can keep you focused on the wrong things.

Say that you want to lose body fat, change your body composition, cut down, or anything else. But that stupid digital or analog number DOES NOT MATTER.

And if you need help reframing your goals or reaching them, message me. I am passionate about helping people reach their fitness goals.
