My Power Hour

Writer: Brandon WoodruffBrandon Woodruff

My post today isn't about fitness, but more about how to reply to people well. Hopefully this helps someone out there struggling to follow up, connect with people online, etc.

I’m an online and in-person fitness coach and I sell furniture. I've previously been a youth pastor, and am currently just in a time of trying to care for people well in no official role. When we as business people, people in ministry, etc, are juggling many plates, it’s so easy to miss messages, not connect with new people, etc. Yet these relationships are so important to both ministry and business.

I think one of the most vital things that I do every day is something called my “power hour”. It's not always an hour, but it rhymes.

In this time, I set a timer, drink cheap coffee, listen to music that makes my heart rate speed a little in combination with the coffee, sit down (or pace around), and do the following:

-Scroll through all of my messages everywhere (social media apps, email, text messages, etc) and reply to any I’ve missed or add things I wish I’d mentioned.

-Follow up with people who’s names I keep on a spreadsheet who I want to stay in touch with for business or ministry. Just reach out to some of them I haven’t connected with in a while.

-Look at who has liked my posts and message them to connect or reconnect.

-Message someone who has joined a fitness FB group I run to connect or reconnect.

-Scroll through my Tiktok and comment on several posts with something kind or conversational (not “💀✊️🤟🏻Nice post, follow me💘😌🤟🏻.)

-Scroll through LinkedIn and comment on any posts where I can add to the conversation.

-Interact in a Facebook group I'm part of that isn't mine.

-Ask someone on LinkedIn with whom I’ve worked with in the past for endorsements on my skills, and do the same for them.

-I also use video messages to reply to fitness questions when it makes sense (when it adds a special touch and isn't creepy, and when I don't look like I'm already asleep)

-

This one hour that I’d probably be spending doing something far less valuable has been instrumental in both my ministry and my business. People want to feel remembered.

This is a good system that I use to do it, and maybe it could work for you if timely responses and staying in touch is an area in which you struggle!
