I am not above begging if the stakes are high enough. So, here I am, begging you to give strength training a try.
You’ve probably got some objections that popped into your mind the instant you read that.
Let me take a shot at them. And if I miss, message me or comment, and I’ll try again.
If you want to lose weight, I know what you likely think workout-wise.
You think that you need to do a ton of cardio or calisthenics to lose weight and then add lifting and stuff later once you’re happy with your weight to “tone up”.
I’m here to tell you that this is not the right approach.
Strength training, aside from burning a lot of calories itself (and all of the other benefits that you can take a look at on my site) will increase your lean muscle mass, thereby increasing your metabolism, thereby speeding up the rate at which you burn calories, thereby making you lose body fat more quickly.
If you are skinny and want to add size, I know what you're probably thinking too.
That you need to do high-rep training to achieve “hypertrophy” and grow your muscles.
It’s true that higher reps lead to hypertrophy (8-12), but think about this.
If you focus on strength first, lifting in the 4-6 rep range on the big lifts, then the amount of weight you can do on those lifts “for size” will increase far more quickly than if you do only the high rep work, and the lower rep range will pack on muscle as well if you aren’t used to lifting already.
If you have heard that squats are bad for your knees or deadlifts are bad for your back and this is why you don’t want to do them, then you haven’t been taught the whole picture.
Yes, squats done INCORRECTLY can be bad for your knees. Deadlifts done with a back that resembles the shape of a PRETTY RAINBOW can injure your back.
But with proper form, these are the best things you can do for your back and knees because it strengthens them and works to heal old injuries that have never had a reason to get better.
If you’re an older person and think the days of lifting heavy weights are behind you, just google something like "80 year old deadlifts."
I think that if you gave this a shot, you’d prove to yourself that you can do things that you haven’t been able to do in years.
Plenty of people aren’t covered here, but I've only got so much time to type.
Message me and let me try to talk you into this!
